Tackling Invasive Plants

About us
Welcome

Bursledon Woodland Park Trust (registered with the Charity Commission as the Woodland Park Community Group: 1089740) manages the area currently known as Woodland Park, Bursledon.  The site is within the Old Bursledon Conservation Area and Special Policy Areas.

Your Local Community Woodland

Woodland Park is a four-acre site of ancient woodland situated to the rear of the Fox and Hounds, between Hungerford, School Road and Pilands Wood.

Made up of mixed native broadleaf trees with Victorian specimen conifer planting, the Park contains hidden iron slag heaps from the 18th Century.

The Park is bounded to the west by a public footpath and a stream, separating Woodland Park from Pilands Wood public open space. For ease of access, two footbridges have been built across the stream, and informal pathways and a boardwalk link the bridges via a central glade.

Looking after Woodland Park - how everyone can help

  • The ancient woodland will survive and regenerate with your help.

  • Please respect the wildlife, especially birds during the nesting season.

  • Please do not pick wildflowers
  • Please keep an eye out for anything that threatens trees or wildlife, particularly acts of vandalism or fly-tipping in the stream.  If you spot any problems, please report them via the Contact page.

How to Get There

This map (not to scale) shows Woodland Park and the adjacent roads.

From the west (Hamble and Pilands), the park can be accessed on foot via Foundry Crescent.  If coming by car, we recommend parking in the car park shown, just off Chamberlayne Road, next to St Paul's Church.

From Foundry Crescent, walk south past the end of the skatepark where you will see a small footbridge crossing the stream (on your left).  This is the northern entrance to the park.  Alternatively, the southern entrance can be found approximately 100m further down the footpath.  The southern entrance provides a more direct route to the central glade and may provide easier access, particularly during the winter months.

From the east (Hungerford and Old Bursledon), the park can be accessed on foot using the footpath shown, just to the south of the Fox and Hounds public house. This footpath also extends west of Hungerford to Kew Lane.

Head west along the footpath, turning right before you reach The Acorns road (not shown), onto the main footpath running along the western edge of the park.
